City of Brownfield is the county seat and principal
commercial center of Terry County, located on the South Plains of
Texas between Lubbock and Odessa. The city's 2000 population was
9,488. The local economy has been historically based on agri-business
(farming and related business and industry) and energy production
(oil and gas), however, strong efforts to diversify the economy have

Closing the US 380/62 intersection to eastbound US 380 traffic
WHEN: Beginning Monday, October 21
WHERE: US 380/62
intersection in Brownfield
Beginning Monday, October 21, the Texas Department of Transportation
(TxDOT) will close the US 380/62 intersection to eastbound US 380
thru-traffic. The closure will allow crews to safely rebuild the US
Eastbound US 380
traffic—heading eastward beyond Brownfield—will be detoured around
the area via US 62/82 north to FM 1698, where it will detoured onto
FM 168 south to reconnect with US 380. The closure/detour is expected
to remain in place for four weeks.
Motorists should expect
delays and are asked to drive with caution through the work zone for
their safety and the safety of the workers.
The work will take place weather permitting and is
part of a $10.6 million project to completely rebuild US 62, from US
385 to the southern Brownfield city limits.
